Stagandhenfancydresscostumes.co.uk started off as business idea after spending hours searching for funny and original Fancy Dress Costumes. Despite the huge number of costume shops here in the UK there are almost no original costumes and T-shirts to be found. Almost all of the fancy dress businesses here are supplied by a few international costume companies that have captured the market, so although there are plenty of shops to choose from the costumes are pretty much all the same.

How then have you managed to compete with these companies?

Well the short answer is you sell your house, and with your pot of cash in one hand and your pc and business plan in the other you start trying to find an import company that doesn’t rip you off and can actually source suitable costumes for a fair price. After 6 months of broken promises I started to realise just how difficult it was going to be.

With a slice of luck I was introduced to Shirley. Shirley works on her own in an office in Yiwu City in China. Yiwu City is home to a huge market and is surrounded by factories that make pretty much anything you want. At last things were looking up and I started by sending Shirley samples of the costumes I wanted made. She took them to the factory and they sent me back some samples. Some were good and some not so good but eventually we sorted out the teething problems you get when you are starting your own business. By dealing direct with the factory I have an opportunity to buy good quality original costumes, accessories and t shirts at a fair price.Now all I have to do is sell them!
